The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu Festival, is a traditional Chinese holiday that is celebrated on the 5th day of the 5th month of the lunar calendar.The festival has a history of over 2,000 years and is celebrated with various activities and customs.

The Dragon Boat Festival is named after the most popular activity associated with it, which is dragon boat racing. Dragon boats are long, narrow boats decorated like dragons, and rowing teams paddle together to the beat of a drum. The races are held in rivers, lakes, and they attract large crowds of spectators.

The festival also has its roots in a traditional Chinese legend. It is said to commemorate the death of Qu Yuan, a famous poet and statesman of ancient China. Qu Yuan drowned himself in the Miluo River as a form of protest against government corruption. The local people, who admired Qu Yuan, raced their boats to the site where he died to retrieve his body. They threw rice dumplings, known as zongzi, into the river to prevent fish from eating his body.

To this day, the Dragon Boat Festival is celebrated with dragon boat races and the consumption of zongzi. Zongzi are sticky rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves and filled with various ingredients such as meats, beans, and nuts. They are steamed or boiled and are a traditional food associated with the festival.
